The Scholarship and Selection Process

 

The San Antonio Black Lawyers Association Scholarship Committee will award three (3)

$1,000 scholarships graduating high school senior who desires to enter an institution of higher education in the Fall of 20189. Eligible candidates must possess an interest in criminal justice and the legal profession and demonstrate a commitment to Equal Justice. The award will be given in the recipient's name to the institution of higher learning specified by the applicant. The recipients will be announced and recognized at the 2018 Annual Gala of the San Antonio Black Lawyers Association on September 15, 2018.

 

The attached application form must be submitted with all required attachments. The completed application, supporting documents, and all recommendations should be placed in an envelope and postmarked no later than August 1, 2018.

 

All applications will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee. The Committee will select recipients who possesses not only good academic records and test scores, but also personal qualities that reflect his/her overall potential to join the legal profession in the future. A written essay, two letters of recommendations (one from high school counselor or teacher, and one from a personal reference), grade point average, extra- curricular activities, and church involvement and interests will be considered to identify potential and personal motivation. A careful review process will insure that the recipients are worthy of this award. Applicants are encouraged to carefully and truthfully express their personal beliefs when writing their essay.
